About Poul Anderson
Poul Anderson was one of the most prolific and popular writers in science fiction. He won the Hugo Award seven times and the Nebula Award three times, as well as many other awards, notably including the Grand Master Award of the Science Fiction Writers of America for a lifetime of distinguished achievement. With a degree in physics, and a wide knowledge of other fields of science, he was noted for building stories on a solid foundation of real science, as well as for being one of the most skilled creators of fast-paced adventure stories. He was author of over a hundred novels and story collections, and several hundred short stories, as well as several mysteries and non-fiction books. He died in 2001.

Poul Anderson recommends
The Black Flame (1939) Stanley G Weinbaum "In his short career, Stanley G. Weinbaum revolutionized science fiction. We are still exploring the themes he gave us. How good to have this early work again, and now with the author's complete text. It is not only of great historical interest, it is a colorful, inventive, and exciting story." | Silverlock (1949) (Silverlock, book 1) John Myers Myers "Here in your hands is the stuff of wonder." | Picnic on Paradise (1968) Joanna Russ "An extraordinary book!" |
Fourth Mansions (1969) R A Lafferty "In this book he surpasses himself. It is wild, subtle, demonic, angelic, hilarious, tragic, poetic, a thundering melodrama and a quest into the depths of the human spirit." | Golem 100 (1980) Alfred Bester "Very few writers of any kind have anything like his inventiveness, audacity and sparkling language." | Blood Music (1985) Greg Bear "A dazzling flight of disciplined imagination! One of the most interesting stories to come along in years!" |
The Incorporated Knight (1987) (Incorporated Knight) Catherine Crook de Camp and L Sprague de Camp "You have a treat in store." | Timemaster (1992) Robert L Forward "A happy romp through a range of ideas about the universe and what we can do in it." | Fallway (1993) Paula E Downing "An exciting, imaginative tale of conflict between species, cultures, and individuals." |
High Steel (1993) Jack Dann and Jack C Haldeman, II "A hymn to the spirit of freedom." | Glory (1993) (Goldenwing Cycle, book 1) Alfred Coppel "A tale that is moving as well as exciting, set in a universe of wonders, with language that sings and roars." | Demon Moon (1994) Jack Williamson "Demon Moon gives us not only an exciting story and people we care about, but a world realized with extraordinary depth and vividness." |
Over the River and Through the Woods (1995) Clifford D Simak " . . . he wrote for so long and always so well that his excellence came to be taken for granted, as we take sunlight for granted until we go blind." | The Boss in the Wall: A Treatise on the House Devil (1998) Avram Davidson and Grania Davis "What a scary story, like a modern Dracula but completely original in its concept and chillingly realistic in its narration. Avram Davidson was one of the finest writers the fantasy field has had, endlessly inventive and uniquely vivid. Grania Davis has completed this work, which he left unfinished, in a way that does him proud." | Wisdom of the Fox: The Man Who Wouldn't Be King (As If He Had a Choice) (1999) Harry Turtledove "Harry Turtledove has established himself as the grand master..." |
The King's Peace (2000) (Tir Tanagiri, book 1) Jo Walton "The King's Peace beautifully and thought-provokingly tells a story set in a world and a history almost like ours, but different enough to be in itself a kind of elvenland. It's good to know that there will be more." | Shadow of the Seer (2001) (Winter of the World, book 6) Michael Scott Rohan "Scott Rohan has an extraordinary gift for making every scene come to life with vivid reality." | Noise (2003) Hal Clement "For well over half a century, Hal Clement has been a towering, even decisive figure in our special literature." |
