Dalton is delighted when his friend Melville Ashdown helps him to find work in Pearl Dale, but the town is coming under the control of vigilantes who have appointed themselves as judge, jury and executioner. When Dalton fails to stop a man from becoming their latest victim he resolves to bring their activities to an end.
He tries to get close to the vigilantes, but then Melville is killed and, with it seeming likely that the killers will evade justice, Dalton finds his convictions tested. He joins the vigilante gang, but how far will he go in aiding their activities before he says that enough is enough?
