About Sue Owens Wright
Sue Owens Wright isn't bothered a bit that her literary career has
gone to the dogs. She wouldn't have it any other way. She adores dogs
and loves writing about them. Sue is an award-winning author of both
fiction and nonfiction about dogs. She is an eight-time nominee for
the coveted Maxwell, awarded annually by the Dog Writers Association
of America (DWAA) to the best writer on the subject of dogs. She has
twice won the Maxwell Award and also earned special recognition from
the Humane Society of the United States for her writing about animal
welfare issues. She writes the Beanie and Cruiser Mystery Series for
dog lovers, which includes the following novels: Howling Bloody
Murder, Sirius About Murder, and Embarking on Murder. The Library
Journal rated her first novel a Top Ten Bestseller. Her nonfiction
books include What's Your Dog's IQ?, 150 Activities for Bored Dogs,
and People's Guide to Pets, to which she contributed chapters on dog
care for Borders. Sue has written numerous articles for pet magazines
such as Dog Fancy, AKC GAZETTE, Fido Friendly, The Bark, and Animal
Fair, and she has been written about in some of them.
Sue lives in her hometown of Sacramento, California, with her husband and beloved basset hounds, which she rescues from shelters. One of her bassets, Bubba Gump, inspired the fictional canine, Cruiser, in her mysteries. Though gone now, Bubba lives on in Cruiser.
Sue has taught college English and writing courses. She studied fiction writing at the Universities of Dublin and Galway in Ireland and University College London in England. She is a member of Mystery Writers of America, DWAA, Sisters in Crime, PEO International, and Daughters of the American Revolution.
