A brand new Western adventure from Paul L. Thompson!

On a bright April afternoon, Shorty and James were laid back on the bank of the river dozing, with fishing lines in the water.
The dog old Red let out a low rumbling growl, which brought both of them to their feet. Riding up on a mule so skinny and poor he looked like a walking skeleton was a young boy of ten or twelve.
Shorty said, “Howdy, Jose. You lost?”
“No, I am not. I ask many questions on my way. Senor Shorty Thompson, I am happy you remember me after such a long time.”
“That I do. Swing off that mule.”
“That is good, my papa sends me to get you.”
“Now why would yore papa do that?”
“Armando Salazar. You know him as Manny.”
“That I do. What kind’a trouble is he in?”
“It is big trouble. Many banditos come and they take Rosita and three more of our village girls with them when they ride away.”
“Let’s get up to the barn and get yore mule taken care of. We’ll ride out at sunup come mornin’. Yeah, with you on a young horse. We’ll turn that mule out to graze an’ maybe he’ll get some meat on his bones.”
