A novel by

Midsummer Masque 'I was to go down to Gryphons on Midsummer Eve. It was a good omen, I thought. Midsummer Eve was my birthday and had a significance for me even beyond the long tradition of magic that enhanced the date in its own right. I was too eager for a hopeful sign to pause for a moment to reflect that magic has its darker side...'

The last two years had not been apply for Rowena Manville. Her father's squandered fortune and sudden death had left her penniless and the object of scandal; the post of companion to the elderly Mrs Clune, mistress of Gryphons, was perhaps the only road open to her. But even before she took up her post she had met Adam Lyngate, the dark, brooding, suspicious heir to Gryphones. And once installed in the lovely Queen Anne house below the sombre woods where the CLune Tragedy occurred three years before, Rowena became aware of a menacing tension below the surface of the Clune household, and a situation in which murder was to be the least of the threats she had to face before the secret of Gryphons was revealed.
