A mystery of Roman Britain, featuring the on-going sleuth, pavement-maker and freedman Libertus, who is resident in Glevum (Roman Gloucester), a city of rich Roman aristocrats, well-armed Roman soldiers and native and foreign freedmen and slaves. Once again Libertus is enmeshed in the murky politicking and scheming of wealthy Romans and the impact of their presence on the local and slave communities. And his own life will be endangered before he can bring the guilty parties to justice.
