She was standing in the middle of the road with the snow swirling round her and Maxted was only just able to stop the Jaguar quickly enough to avoid hitting her. He had an important assignment to carry out and the last thing he wanted was the encumbrance of a distressed woman, even though she was very attractive. Nevertheless, when it came to a matter of life and death he was to discover that Mrs Ackroyd could be useful and that maybe she was not such a burden after all.
