In 1764, as a smallpox epidemic threatens colonial Massachusetts, Charlotte Willett and her neighbor Richard Longfellow host a group of guests undergoing the new inoculation procedure, but when one of their patients turns up dead, Charlotte and Richard must find a killer before it is too late.
