Storming Saipan

Minefields with the potential to destroy entire companies of troops and regiments of tanks. Minefields that could wipe out much of the invading force in a sea of high explosive and a lake of blood.
The Marines land on the beach and move further inshore. Second Platoon is detailed to locate the remote detonators and destroy them. The captured Jap soldier leads Ferrell and O’Brien toward a mountaintop observation post containing the detonators, but all they can do is stare at the heavily guarded and impregnable slope, knowing their mission has hit the buffers. Knowing many men must die.
Leaving their own soldiers and armor to fall into the trap is not an option. Ferrell and O’Brien search for a way to reach the observation post, and they discover there may be a chance to reach it. With no alternative they launch an attack against overwhelming odds. Knowing failure will result not just in their deaths, but the deaths of hundreds of their fellow Marines.
