High school teacher Lucy is taking a sabbatical. Escaping to a cute village in the English countryside, she's got her trusty West Highland terrier and a perfect little cottage to live in while she researches the women who worked at nearby Bletchley Park during the war. There's one problem: just across the street there's an extremely handsome main in plaid and workboots with a twinkle in his eye.
Hassled single dad Sam builds tree houses for a living - not that it impresses his daughter any more. He's always sworn he's too busy for love, but when Lucy moves into the cottage opposite, he finds himself making excuses to call round and ask for her advice as an expert on teenagers.
Meanwhile there's a whole cast of endearing characters who seem determined to involve Lucy in small town life, from Bunty, her ninety-year old neighbour who has a secret from her past she's kept to herself for years, and the village improvement society who somehow manage to pull Lucy into their plans to turn the disused red telephone box on the village green into a cute Little Free Library.
