The WOLF KINGDOM books are set in a world that has been conquered by an army of wolf-soldiers. The tyrant Wolf-King treats his human subjects as slaves. The only resistance comes from Hooley Dan's Free Folk, who hide in a natural rock stronghold deep in the forest.

In Book 1, ESCAPE!, Tam and Nina return one day to find their parents abducted and their home taken over by wolves. They set out in search of the Free Folk, barely surviving the perils of the forest and narrowly escaping from hunting-packs of wolves. They acquire their first magical object, a camouflage-creating belt that speaks to Tam and goes by the name of Berkiss.
