The Boss of the Santa Ysabel

V. Crumm -- for no one rightly knew her first name -- was one of the New Mexico Territory's odd characters. She had a square, sunburned face set in granite lines. She had started with almost nothing -- a lone team of horses and one wagon salvaged from the Indian raid that had left her husband's freighting outfit in flames and herself a young widow. Her dogged perseverance and shrewd business sense had brought prosperity to the sleepy town of Santa Ysabel. She was known and respected for a hundred miles in every direction. Now, V. Crumm held a letter of warning in her hand -- get out of Santa Ysabel or face ruin and death. Who would want her dead -- and why? One thing was certain: V.
