Professor Alistair Dirke is an ordinary suburbanite, a typical upper-middle-class professional who gets caught up in extraordinary events, including theft, deception, and two murders. Seasoned reader Raymond Sawyer brings Alistair and his world to life and helps us understand his doubts, fears, and frustration. Sawyer's smooth, controlled style of reading puts the ensuing chaos in a rational context. Elizabeth Farrars gives us a mystery without bogus clues and annoying red herrings. We can solve the mystery along with Alistair and enjoy a well-written and well-read story. D.L.G. © AudioFile 2000, Portland, Maine
