Policeman's Triumph

(1948)
A novel by

When Mr. James Barwell, collector of antiques, reported that his daughter Joyce, young and good-looking, was missing, it did not strike Hugh Ashby, Chief Inspector of Scotland Yard, that this was going to be a very unusual case. Tired of her secluded life with her father, she had probably run away with a man, as in so many other cases he had dealt with.

But a girl's body is washed up, a valuable antique collection becomes involved and a dead man is discovered in a boathouse. With these and other strange and sinister ongoings, Ashby found that it was certainly a lot less than routine and the case required all the observations and intelligence he had.
