On his return from Hawaii, Adam Benson, who writes for the PHILADELPHIA BANNER, finds a telegram from his old buddy, Mort Waldron, waiting for him. Mort's cry for help takes Adam to New York, where Mort is up to his neck in trouble and minus his investigator's licence. Things soon start to pop, thanks to the Stompano brothers' hoodlum following, and the millionaire Hartmanns, who are not above fooling the law a little. Adam finally manages to get Mort out of trouble, but not before acquiring a painful bullet wound near a vital spot.
