Full Circle

(1965)
A novel by

Since her childhood, Harriet's life had been bound up with the fortunes of Harley Hall, a beautiful house in the village where her father was the vicar. In the early years the house prospered under the ownership of Sir John Mannering, a wealthy confectioner, who had bought it to provide the family he intended to found with a country background. During the war the house became a hospital where Harriet worked as a nurse, but when Nicholas Mannering, a fighter pilot, was shot down, the decline of the fortunes of the Mannering family and the decay of the house began.

Tragedy brought Harriet the chance to restore the Hall, and in meeting this challenge during the years when the character of rural living was changing all the time, she achieved contentment. At the moment when her tasks seem to be completed Harriet learns that life never ceases to make demands.
