My name is Harla Flint, and I'm an elemental. My magic comes from the monsters within the peculiar forest called the Shade Rasa, not that I completely understand how. That's because I spent years in juvie for murdering my parents, even though I have no memory of the tragic event.
On a whim, I signed up to compete in the Elemental Outcast Games. Unfortunately, it hasn't gone well. While in the Games, one of the contestants shoots me in the back with a poisoned arrow.
When I come to, I'm met by royals who claim to be my real parents.
Supposedly all of the contestants from the Games are dead, including those who belong to the Magic Blood Keepers.
Except Kai. He works for the royals and has from the beginning.
The royals want me to work for them to defeat the monsters of the Shade and destroy Mother Earth. That isn't going to happen, but I can play games too. So I pretend to agree to their terms.
I will train. Learn how to use the other elements and keep my shadow magic in check. I will deceive them and Kai so I can learn their plans.
When the time is right, I will escape and leave them all behind, even Kai. Because I need to hate him for betraying me, which means I might have to lie to myself as well.
