Hot tearsrolled down Dana's cheeks.  Was sheprepared to look over her shoulder forever?Did she deserve this?

"Is itover?" she asked, her voice trembling.

"No," Kolesaid immediately, still robotic and without empathy.  "I told you those men were only carrying outorders.  Now I have to find the man ormen who gave the orders."

Dana's heartskipped a beat.  Her tears flowed evenharder.  "When, when you find them, willit be over?"

She squeezedher eyes closed.  Jesus, was she making adeal with the devil?  Kole had justkilled an unknown number of people tonight. Why was she accepting this?  Wouldshe stay with him if he stopped after just one or two more?  Where the hell would she draw the line?  Five, six bodies?

"It shouldbe over then," he said.

Dana didn'trespond, but her breathing revealed how tormented her soul was.

Kole sighedand said, "I understand if you don't wanna be with me anymore.  You're a good woman.  You deserve better."

Dana'sexpression crumbled into something that resembled a sad clown face.  Kole had just confirmed what Tariq said.  But she didn't need either of them to tellher something she'd known all along.  Shedidn't think she'd ever been more conflicted. She couldn't make a decision at that moment.  She continued to cry softly but otherwise didnot speak.

"I don'twant you to come to Moon's funeral tomorrow," Kole said.  "The people who killed him, they're still outthere; in this city.  I still don't knowwhy they targeted Moon.  They know TheOrganization will be at the funeral, and they might try something.  I don't want you around that."

Despite itall, Dana found his need to protect her endearing.  It was this need that had brought him intoher life in the first place.

He told her,"I gotta go.  Try to get some sleep."

Dana stillcouldn't find her voice.

Never one tohandle emotions very well, his or hers, Kole told her, "Bye," and abruptlydisconnected.
