None of the characters in RIBBONS has a name. I did this very much on purpose, to pay homage to the now nameless, faceless pioneer women who endured all kinds of dangers and privations as they helped settle the West. The setting for the story is probably Kansas around the 1850s, but it could be anywhere. The woman and her child remain completely anonymous as they bravely struggle to survive in a hard, uncaring land. And maybe that's how it should be.
