In this second book of the gripping series of Quill Hedgehog's adventures, the wicked alley-cat Mungo Brown tries to invade Black Wood in Animalfolk land with his army of Wasteland rats. This time he intends to invade through an old tunnel, imprison the Animalfolk and create a nasty, polluted country called New Mungoland. In the end he is thwarted by the inventions and wisdom of Hoot Owl, and the Woodlanders drive him out. Good triumphs over evil and Mungo is beaten yet again.

"The Quill Hedgehog novels were originally written for the 8 - 13 age-range, but through their satire of society they have developed a cult following among adults and children alike. Doris Palmer, former president of the Library Association, described them as 'utterly delightful books!' "
