H. G. Wells was a prolific author of both fiction and non-fiction. His writing career spanned more than 60 years, and his early science fiction novels earned him the shared title (with Jules Verne and Hugo Gernsback) of "The Father of Science Fiction". The short story, "Le Mari Terrible", was published in 1895.
