1853, and the war clouds were gathering, once again caused by one man's greed to take at least part of a country that did not belong to him. On this occasion, it was the Russian Tsar who had his eyes firmly on the Ottoman Empire. The Great Powers were alarmed by this and in Britain, the Admiralty orders that Rear-admiral Edward Courtenay take his new squadron to the Mediterranean to add to the Fleet commanded by Admiral Dundas, in case hostilities should occur. Edward soon finds himself in contact with Russian ships whilst patrolling in the Black Sea. In the meantime, Timothy Courtenay, now a Lieutenant-colonel, tries to contain his frustration at his Marines not being called to action, but in the early part of the following year, finds himself and his battalion involved in the other side of the looming conflict - in the Baltic, the Tsar's 'back door'. In the meantime, the Courtenay ladies find their own conflict with a dishonest Solicitors' Clerk which turns violent.....
