The Faith of Burning Glass

The last vampire on Earth is walking through a desert, searching for a single empty bottle. It is all that he needs to survive.

It is slow going.

He is walking upon sand glazed by heat. He feels each single particle fused together like the icing on a funeral cake. The sun pours down on to his body like a white hot acid bath. The sunlight does not kill him but it is mighty uncomfortable.

He wishes for a bottle of SPF sunscreen three hundred times strong but all that he has to protect himself from the sun's burning rays is his cloak - a tattered quilt sewn from a dozen black "Keep On Trucking" t-shirts.

How is that for a slogan for the last vampire on Earth?

I survived the apocalypse and all that I got out of it was a dozen crummy t-shirts.
