At nineteen, Charon feels that she belongs to no one. Brought up in the kindly but impersonal atmosphere of an orphanage, she dreads future loneliness and the knowledge that she is unneeded. When she learns that she has a twin brother a new life is opened up. An elderly friend helps to transport both Charon and her twin brother into a different life, deep in beautiful country. Here Charon has to learn to understand the motives of women but she finds it impossible until a 'dutiful' doctor takes a firm stand and shocks her into understanding the truth. Charon also has a fresh problem to face - the trials and tribulations, as well as joys, of her first love affair.
