After a car crash, Dr Peter Broome regains consciousness in a South African hospital, only to find he has lost his memory. Enquiries show that he comes from Cornwall, and had flown to Swaziland where he had enquired after some unknown person who had already gone to Durban.

Slowly memories return, but not the answer to the question that bothers him: is he married? Then he falls in love with a shy, unselfish girl, but can say nothing until he knows the truth, and when a beautiful girl flies out from England and says they are engaged, Peter is in a real dilemma...
