A Twist in Time

(2000)
A novel by

Cosy Walker's mum is in hospital and she has been sent to stay with foster parents, along with two other girls, Jade and Jemma, who think Cosy is a snob because she has a scholarship to the High School. But Cosy isn't a snob or a swot. She is really bad at maths and with everything else she has to worry about, things at school are almost as bad as things at home. Then one day she sees the ghost of a young girl sitting in her room, writing a journal. And the weird thing is that it seems as if the ghost girl can see Cosy, but thinks that she is a ghost too.

The award-winning Jean Ure rarely fails to please, and in Twist in Time she cleverly combines a thoroughly contemporary tale of a young girl dealing with her mother's illness and life in foster-care with a superb twist that takes the reader gently back into the past.

An intriguing, moving, subtle, imaginative and well-written story, A Twist in Time is ideal for young readers who are looking for something special to read before lights out. (Age 9 and over) --Susan Harrison
