Ronald Tierney's first two mysteries, The Stone Veil and The Steel Web, were welcomed with critical acclaim. With The Iron Glove, Tierney's wry detective, Deets Shanahan, makes his third appearance on the international mystery scene. The Iron Glove begins on a steamy August day. The body of a woman is found floating in a quiet, isolated river inlet. Haunted by the inexplicable marks on her nude body, Shanahan is drawn into the investigation even though he believes the police have already found the murderer. However, Deets Shanahan soon discovers that the trail is much wider than the one leading to the banks of a river in Indianapolis. It winds through the sweaty world of professional boxing, the not-so-historic sites of the nation's capital, and the bedrooms of one of Manhattan's trendy hotels. Often feeling out of his league in the world of power politics and high-level deceit, Shanahan nevertheless relents only when he uncovers a shocking truth, one that not only explains the murder, but provides a deeper understanding of the woman he loves.
