Although Tolstoy's fame rests on his novels, he was also a prolific dramatist. Because his plays are satirical, didactic, and coloured by complex peasant dialect, earlier translations have been seriously flawed. This text provides one of the first complete English translations of Tolstoy's plays. This collection provides an insight into Tolstoy's life and his development as a writer.
