In 1938 Sigmund Freud left Vienna for London, taking with him his wife Martha, youngest daughter Anna, and sister-in-law Minna Bernays. They ended up living at Mresfield Gardens, Hampstead, where Freud died on September 23, 1939. Anna Freud, whose specialty was in psychoanalysis of children, lived and worked in the house (now the Freud Museum) until her death in 1982. In his last days Freud's dreams were recorded by his daughter, Anna, who has sacrificed so much of her life and identity to him, that he will not wholly die until she does. Anna stays faithful even though the revelations in his diaries reveal shameful secrets. Has he done this to unnerve her or is it one of his "Jewish" jokes?
