Egyptian Gods and Pharaohs

(2001)
A collection of stories by

Grades 3-6--Robert Swindell's Egyptian Gods and Pharaohs provides retellings of stories pertaining to the beliefs of the ancient Egyptians. These tales reflect the Egyptians' beliefs about the world around them and how it came to be. The two cassettes are formatted as one long story, beginning with the creation of Ra, the sun god, and Thoth, the moon god, and ending with the story of how the Egyptians believed they arrived in heaven. To make the lengthy tale more manageable, however, it is divided into 17 sequential stories, each capable of standing on its own. The only problem is that are not listed anywhere on the tape or case, so listeners would have to create their own "table of contents" to track the order of the tales. Brilliantly narrated by English actor Christian Rodska, these easy-to-follow tales provide creative descriptions and exciting adventures as they bring the gods and pharaohs to life. Rodska creates different voices for each character with apparent ease. Students interested in mythology will enjoy this audiobook, as will teachers presenting a lesson on Ancient Egypt or mythology.
