The memoir of a woman ("Jane Barrie" was a pseudonym for Mildred Savage) who joins her husband in his lumberyard when she realizes that the business is deeply in debt and foundering financially. She takes over most of the financial aspects of the business, going out to negotiate terms with her husband's creditors while he remained behind to oversee the daily aspects of the business itself.
