A Time in September

(1973)
A novel by

Katherine Master's career as a film actress had been all-consuming-to the point of a broken marriage and alienation of her daughter. But now she felt an emptiness that panicked her into going perhaps too far to get the lead in the film Homecoming. With the rest of the cast, she goes to an isolated Scottish island to shoot the film. There she meets Gavin Hamilton, the town's only doctor, different and disturbing. There is also Steve Payne, the young American director. How does he really feel about Katherine-especially after her daughter arrives? Slowly, painfully, Katherine begins to discover herself-as a woman, mother and actress. When she finally fits the pieces together, many changes occur.
