Mr. Serraillier has carefully selected varied incidents from the Jason story and set them out in logical progression. In a direct, lucid style, he has captured the grandeur of mythology; the dialogue is strong, the language rhythmic. Jason's strange upbringing - he was raised by a centaur - is skimmed over; the Argonauts' search for the golden fleece which is guarded by a wakeful serpent and Jason's marriage to Medea who savagely kills two of her own children are recounted in effective detail.
