Gunnar Staalesen is a Norwegian writer. Staalesen has a Cand philol. degree from Universitetet i Bergen and he has worked at Den Nationale Scene, the main theater in Bergen.
Staalesen's crime novels about private detective Varg Veum have been translated into 12 languages, and it have been decided to produce six movies and the first one, "Bitre Blomster", is scheduled for release on September 28 2007. There are reportedly several movies under production.
