This is the autobiography of Hollywood screenwriter Curt Siodmak, known for movies such as "The Wolf Man" and "Son of Dracula". It covers the time when he was forced to immigrate to the US in the 1930s when the Nazis took power in Germany and how he adapted to his new home during World War II, and how all this affected his perceptions of freedom and human dynamics. Siodmak describes how through the genres of sci-fi and horror, he created stories which reflected his historical perspectives and his search for truth.
