Delvecchio's Brooklyn

by

Robert J RandisiDelvecchio's Brooklyn (2001)
A collection of stories by Robert J Randisi

Nick Delvecchio has on office on Sacket Street, within walking distance of the Brooklyn Bridge. Delvecchio is a one-man shop and can't be too choosy about his cases, which is why, in "A Matter of Ethics," he agrees to tail a man to make sure he's adhering to his diet. It only gets complicated when Nick learns the man is unfaithful to his wife. In "The Snaphaunce," Delvecchio hires on to help a very distasteful gun collector find a missing piece that he obviously values more than he does his wife. Randisi has featured Delvecchio in two novels as well as the stories gathered here. Just as his sleuth stays true to his Brooklyn roots, so Randisi remains true to the Hammett-Chandler roots of hard-boiled fiction: a lone knight applying his personal code to an uncaring and often brutal world. Fine short fiction. Wes Lukowsky
