Amanda Pepper, an English teacher at Philly Prep, returns in The Bluest Blood by Gillian Roberts. At a champagne benefit for the school's library, Amanda is introduced to some of the richest members of Philadelphia society and encounters a protest group called the "Moral Ecologists," who burn the party's host in effigy. The Moral Ecologists appear the following Monday morning to greet the students arriving at Philly Prep with the unenlightened message that reading pollutes the mind. The leader of the Moral Ecologists, whose stepson attends Philly Prep, is murdered. Amanda deals with the depressed teenager as her policeman lover attempts to solve the murder. The author provides a slightly cynical and amusing look at Main Line society, as well as an intriguing mystery.
