Geoffrey Rose was a professional actor for 47 years before he found his 'true vocation' in retirement in 2000. In the 1970s, he wrote three thrillers each characterised by exotic settings, anonymous heroes and his own distinctive - at times fantastical and almost surreal - style of story-telling. His first novel was favourably compared to the early work of Graham Greene, his simple and clear prose conjuring up a world which was anything but simple and clear, but often bizarre if not slightly mad. Of A Clear Road to Archangel the New York Times said: "This is pure chase, nothing more but...the reader is hooked for every frozen inch of the way."
