After her father's death, Perditta Fox, goddaughter of Elizabeth I, is forced to live with her uncle. Cold and tyrannical, he is determined to let nothing stand in the way of his treacherous plot to put Mary Stuart, a Catholic, on the throne of England. Perditta, loyal to her Queen, must find a way to thwart this plot and in so doing comes to a head-on confrontation with the dashing and ruthless Conn Galliard, her uncle's accomplice. Perditta is sworn to hate Conn, but as hate turns to love, she finds both her allegiance and her life in jeopardy.
