Jacob and Penny arrive in Virginia City planning on finding a nice hotel and resting for a few days after a long, dusty time on the trail. As they rode into town, an outlaw callously murders a miner and takes off north. The sheriff asks them to track him down and bring him back to justice. The killer’s trail leads to a patch of territory where two ranchers are locked in a bitter struggle that has led to open gun battles, and Jacob and Penny ride right into the middle of the action. When they learn that the man they’re pursuing has also stopped and joined one side of the range war, they have no choice but to join the other. Things build to a final, bloody confrontation as they try to find a way to end the war and capture their man.
