A brand new Caleb Johnson adventure from Charles Ray!

A gang of drifters, fleeing from Dodge City, Kansas and a posse after one of their number kills a popular local man, makes their way to Colorado’s hinterlands and Bear Creek where they figure the little town is just far enough off the beaten track to allow them to hide out for a while until the heat’s off. They ride in and take over the town, not a difficult thing to do in a tiny town with one lawman and a basically peaceful, law-abiding population. They make one serious mistake, though. One of the people they take hostage in their takeover of the town is Flora, Caleb Johnson’s wife, who had been in town visiting with her friend Lillian Davis, owner of the local dry goods store.

Now, one thing you do not do if you want to stay healthy is to mess with anyone in Caleb’s family. Not only do you find yourself having to deal with him, but Snuffy, the brown bear that he and Flora raised from a cub after his mother was killed by wolves, is kind of protective of the Johnson family as well. The twelve drifters don’t know it, but they don’t stand a chance against two very angry critters who come to rescue Flora.
