Nazia is a good daughter. She dutifully obeys her parents, adores her father, excels at school, and accepts without question her destiny in life: to leave Karachi and marry her cousin. But all that she's ever known - and all that's ever been expected of her - comes crashing down when she gets pulled out of school to work as a house servant.

As fourteen-year-old Nazia finds herself growing up much too quickly, the hardships that seem unbearable turn out to be more liberating than she ever imagined.
