Female sleuths are hot right now, so this anthology should be a winner, especially in audio. These selections showcase eight female mystery writers, all masters of their craft: Wheat, Fraser, Cody, Grafton, Dunlap, Hart, Pickard and Paretsky. Whether tracking vagrants in the New York subway or resisting rape or exposing murderers, each sleuth has more than enough brains and courage to challenge any male in the business. Suspense mounts as two skilled narrators dramatize the action. Although the narrative style of both readers is understated, and one is very like the other, dual narration may be the wise choice with so many characters in so many stories. J.C.
