First published between 1946 and 1959, this trilogy consists of "Titus Groan", "Gormenghast" and "Titus Alone". Gormenghast is a vast crumbling castle to which the 77th Earl, Titus Groan, is lord and heir. It is also a cobwebbed kingdom of Byzantine government and age-old ritual.

Genre: Fantasy

Praise for this book

"Somehow this manages to be both rich and austere at the same time - the sense is of vastness, but of unbearable claustrophobia, too. The egregious BBC adaptation turned it into an Augustan costume romp and stripped out all the shadows and all the dust. Philistines." - China Miéville
