Frisky and independent, Ruth's pony, Fly-by-night, is at first accepted good-naturedly by her parents. But when Ruth's 17 year old brother is hospitalized after a serious motor bike accident, the family's finances are severely strained. Ruth's conflict between wanting to keep Fly-by-Night and her appreciation of the family's financial worries makes a dramatic as well as heartwarming story.
