Francine Prose recommends
As Long as She Needs Me (2001) Nicholas Weinstock "Weinstock's clever tale provides, like a glass of good champagne, all the heady, fizzy pleasures of a 1930s screwball comedy." | Comedy in a Minor Key (2009) Hans Keilson "The Death of the Adversary and Comedy in a Minor Key are masterpieces and Hans Keilson is a genius... Read these books and join me in adding him to the list, which each of us must compose on our own, of the world's greatest writers." | The Lovers (2010) Vendela Vida "The lovers is a spare and haunting meditation on how travel can bring us full circle back to the place from which we should have started. I read it over two days and dreamed about it the second night." | |
Gold Boy, Emerald Girl (2010) Yiyun Li "[Resonates] with emotion... Gold Boy, Emerald Girl is an example of the treasure an artist can fashion from the raw materials of ordinary existence." |
