With only five pallid paintings, the book certainly does not stand up to the series's name. However, many of Poe's famous tales are included -- The Pit and the Pendulum, The Black Cat, and The Tell-Tale Heart-- and most of his fans will not need illustrations to conjure up the horrifying images his stories evoke.
