Brian Payton has written for the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, and Boston Globe. He is the author the novel HAIL MARY CORNER, a debut Canadas Globe & Mail declared packs a cathartic wallop. His second book, SHADOW OF THE BEAR: Travels in Vanishing Wilderness, is a work of narrative nonfiction published internationally and chosen as a Barnes and Noble Book Club Pick, an NPR Pearls Pick, and a Book of the Year (U.S. National Outdoor Book Awards). THE ICE PASSAGE: A True Story of Ambition, Disaster, and Endurance in the Arctic Wilderness, was long listed for the 2010 National Award for Canadian Nonfiction and was a finalist for the 2010 Hubert Evans Nonfiction Prize. His latest book, THE WIND IS NOT A RIVER, will be published in January, 2014. Payton lives with his family in Vancouver.
