The Bird Cage

(1968)
A novel by

A London doctor, Humphrey Carrington, is being subjected to a mysterious campaign of persecution. There are disturbing telephone calls; the Times personal column carries strange messages addressed to him; parcels arrive with perculiar contents; and at the hospital very odd things keep happening. Apparently it's all the work of an attractive young woman, Vivian Wilde, Who a year of so ago was briefly his patient when she tried to kill herself: because she was still suicidal at the hospital, he had her committed to a mental hospital, and now, it would seem, she is bitterly resentful and still mentally disturbed. Or is she? Carrington's friend, Stephen Hudson, isn't altogether satisfied with the simple explanation.
