Amid the vast acres of the Private House estate live the forest dwellers, led by the beautiful Talia, who is enthralled by a newcomer to the forest: a Whipmaker to whose discipline she readily submits. As the regime in the forest becomes ever more severe, the forest dwellers abduct Anne, the Mistress's youngest pupll, and a struggle begins for mastery of the Private House itself.
